“Sometimes you win and sometimes you learn“– Robert Kiyosaki
Are you a glass half full or a glass half empty person?
It’s a question we’ve all been asked at some point in our lives and how we answer shines a light on how we think and feel. October is Positive Attitude Month, and we want to shine a light on what you can do this month to give your attitude a (maybe much-needed) positivity boost.
Open the door to positivity this October. You might just like what you find…
The benefits of adopting a positive attitude
In a world full of what feels like continual bad news, having a positive attitude can be an achievement in itself. However, once you realise that you can adopt a positive mindset even when your back is against the wall, it can and will change the way you live.
Look for the silver lining
In life, the smallest problems can sometimes feel like the world is going to end. However, when you take a step back and realise life naturally brings ups and downs, you can choose to see the positive in all situations. Look at social media for example – we enjoy and admire it as we can connect with like-minded people from across the world to share knowledge, stories, and discoveries but ultimately, we know it’s also flawed due to countless distractions and a lot of misinformed opinions.
Finding the good in things we know are flawed is an important aspect of adopting a positive attitude.
Don’t hide from the rain, dance in it.
How you perceive your world can have a massive effect on how you feel. Take the weather for instance. When it’s raining, what emotions do you tend to feel? Sad? Depressed? Anxious? It’s easy to think this way as occasionally what follows rain can be a storm. Switching to a positive attitude, however, may well just enable a very different vibe in how you see the rain.
Water brings life. Thunder brings a sense of excitement before lightning strikes. And lightning sets the sky alight and shows a hidden landscape we only see for a moment. Think when was the last time you chose to go for a walk in the rain…
When you choose to view the world from a positive perspective, your happiness will increase as well as your resilience. And when you feel happy, you massively increase your likelihood of performing at your best – the two are intrinsically linked!
(More on resilience next month… Watch this space.)
“Sometimes you win and sometimes you learn”
This quote from Robert Kiyosaki really hits home what it means to have a positive attitude. No matter who you are, what you do, or where you come from, you will have tasted disappointment or defeat at some point in your life.
It’s okay to feel deflated. It’s okay to feel sad, but it’s also important you digest every aspect of your disappointment or defeat. When you take time to reflect and give it the microscope treatment, you’ll be able to learn why you lost and what you can do in order to limit your losses in the future. See it as building up your own toolkit of strategies to help you deal with whatever curveballs life throws your way.
Losing makes us stronger as we learn so much more. Think back to the last time you were down in the dumps. What could you have done differently with a more positive outlook…
Three tips for positivity this October
Focus on what you have, not what you don’t
Focus is an incredible tool that we all have. The capacity we have within ourselves to focus is unmatched. We don’t always have control over this game we call life, but we are in control of where we put our focus and our attention. Invest it in something meaningful and watch your attitude begin to change.
Be optimistic and believe in the power of you
To be optimistic is to possess an overall positive outlook of your world and have trust in good things happening. You’ll see an uplift of confidence, improved quality of life, and feel less stress. Start to write down some simple positive mantras and say them to yourselves over and over again. Their positive impact is something I learned many years ago and there are millions upon millions of people worldwide who swear by them.
Here are mine if that helps to get you up and running 😊
Stay humble and pursue gratitude
Taking time to pursue gratitude and embrace humility are traits worth having. Pursue gratitude by taking time out every day to focus on the positives and witness change for the better in your life.
Take time every day to jot down all the things you are grateful for – sometimes, it’s the simplest things that can bring the most pleasure. Rest assured; you’ll be pleasantly surprised at you what you discover.
